The concept can support the build-out of new solar and wind projects, actively helping to decarbonise the grid. Thanks to the link between production and consumption in real-time, 24/7 solutions offer the highest form of credibility in the market. This is certified thanks to hourly matching Guarantees of Origin or through an independent authority such as TÜV in Germany.

The solution in detail
For a tailor-made solution to be renewable 24/7, consumption and production are matched in real-time. With a classical renewable PPA, fluctuating sources like solar and wind can only cover part of the consumption profile of a consumer on an hourly basis. The consumer needs to buy the rest of the power in the spot market, where it will likely have a fossil fuel origin.
Statkraft’s flexible hydropower can be utilised to balance the differential, resulting in a customer being supplied by 100 per cent renewable power at every specific hour. With our hydropower portfolio, we are in a unique position to overcome an often-cited barrier to 24/7 renewable energy: the intermittency of wind and solar power production.
